A Day Away in Long Island: Part Two

So you’ve used your rental car wisely to visit the local beaches and tour the lighthouses and old mansions on the Gold Coast. What’s next, you ask? Here are a few more suggestions of what you can do on your Long Island, NY visit.

Watersports

If you enjoy a day at the beach but can’t handle baking all day in the sun, rent a jet ski or go kayaking along the shore. Long Island has many watersports for visitors to enjoy, including rowing, sailing, canoeing, scuba diving, and more. You can bring your own watersport gear or find some great rental options along the shore. DiscoverLongIsland.com has a great directory.

Golf

You can’t visit Long Island and not bring your clubs. The area is known for having terrific golf courses, many of which have great beachside views. Golf Digest has an excellent golf course search feature. You plug in the location, and you get trusted reviews and information on courses.

Horseback Riding

Long Island residents have a history with horseback riding. Who wouldn’t want to experience that motion-picture-worthy ride along the shore? Well, you can. Several places throughout this NY travel destination have trails where you can either bring your own steed or rent a horse. Others offer guided tours.

Baseball

Hot dogs, home runs, and nighttime fireworks—what’s a day away without an old-fashioned evening at the ballpark? Check out Long Island’s very own minor league team, the Long Island Ducks. As the 2012 and 2013 Atlantic League Champions, the Long Island Ducks play hard and are enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. Individual ticket costs are reasonable (on average about $12), and you may also want to bring some extra cash to park your vehicle or get some food. If you need a car rental for your day away or night at the ballpark, please call us at Empire Rent A Car at 1-800-750-8782 or reserve online. We’ll get you all set up for your Long Island adventure.
