As our country continues to grapple with how best to deal with the spread of COVID-19, school has ended and it’s officially summertime. For many Americans, summer is a common time to vacation with their families. However, this year is already looking quite a bit different. Choose Your Destination Wisely

Restrictions are different in every state, so do your research before you choose your destination. In some states, parks have reopened; however, in others, only walking trails may be open. For a day trip, we recommend finding a nearby state park with lots of open spaces to picnic and trails to hike or bike. If possible, try going on a weekday to avoid any crowds. And remember, always maintain six feet of space between you and other park-goers.

Use Extra Caution on the Road

As many hospitals currently are overloaded with COVID-19 patients, it is unwise to take any unnecessary risks that could land you in the hospital. With that in mind, we recommend you choose a destination that is close by, so you won't have to drive for very long. Additionally, make sure you bring with you all the items you'll need to keep your vehicle sanitized. Finally, be sure to take every precaution while pumping gas. Wear gloves, a face mask, and use hand sanitizer every time.

Bring Your Own Food

Again, restrictions vary by state, but generally, most restaurants are still closed to diners. Instead of risking exposure at a drive-thru or carry-out location, pack all the food you'll need for the drive, as well as a picnic to enjoy once you get there. This way you'll be able to make less stops and you'll likely save money as well.
