Melt the Winter Blues in Queens

While the temperatures sometimes spike in anticipation for spring, February and March are still cold months that make it hard to spend time outside. If you’re visiting Queens, New York, with your kids this winter—never fear! Below are some activities that will melt the winter blues and counteract cabin fever.

Skate into Fun

Bundle up, lace up your ice skates, and prepare for a slippery afternoon of fun at the City Ice Pavilion. This ice arena offers public skating times, hockey lessons, figure skating lessons, and several shows and competitions.

Sled in Queens

Winter just doesn’t feel complete unless you go sledding. While Queens has a few stellar hills in Forest Park and Juniper Valley Park, the quintessential NY sledding experience is at Pilgrim Hill in Central Park. Its long, steep slope sends sleds flying, and then flattens out at the end, bringing kids safely to a stop.

Warm up with Hot Chocolate

After spending a while on the snow and ice, pile into your rental car and head to a nearby coffee shop for some hot cocoa. Try Sweetleaf’s hot chocolate. It’s made exclusively from Jacques Torres chocolate—arguably some of the best, richest chocolate ever made. You can even top it off with homemade marshmallows for an additional $0.50.
