While it may seem hard to believe, Fall Break is right around the corner and now is the time to start planning your trips! Many families like to take advantage of time off from school to spend time together and relax before the holiday months sneak up on them. This year, if your fall break travel plans take you to the great state of New York, we’ve got the destinations for you! Our experts at Empire Rent A Car love the New York area and we’re sharing our three favorites today.
Located on the southern tip of Cayuga Lake, Ithaca is the perfect place to take in the gorgeous fall foliage of upstate New York. Between the quaint Victorian homes and amazing restaurants, you'll never want to leave. Plus, you'll get the full fall experience with leaves, pumpkin patches, and the most incredible gorges and waterfalls. Commune with nature at Robert S. Treman State Park, go antique hunting at the local shops, and check out the Ithaca Farmers Market for homemade pies and apple cider doughnuts!
You may know the Catskills as the backdrop of the movie Dirty Dancing, but it has so much more to offer. It's home to some of New York's most charming small towns and hiking trails. Your Instagram followers will be in for a treat, as there is no shortage of post-worthy views in the Catskills. Check out Overlook Mountain for views of Echo Lake and visit historic Main Street for locally-made bath, body, and wellness products.
Long Island is the perfect place for a fall getaway, especially if you don't plan to bring the kids. Instead, bring your taste for Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio and spend your days exploring the farms and vineyards along North Fork. Winery tours are available at several local vineyards, and you can extend your stay on the island by booking a room at a bed and breakfast for a truly cozy fall getaway.
