New York Rental Car and the Bronx Wildlife Center
The Wildlife Conservation Society has been set up to save wildlife and wild lands through conservation not only in New York, but around the world. The wildlife parks include the Bronx Zoo, New York Aquarium, Central Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, and Prospect Park Zoo.
Go green
The Wildlife Conservation Society originated in 1895 as the New York Zoological Society. The name was changed to the Wildlife Conservation Society in 1993. Their mandate was to advance wildlife conservation, promote the study of zoology, and create a first-class zoological park. Some notable New Yorkers involved in its creation include Andrew Green and Theodore Roosevelt. The Bronx Zoo was created as the flagship zoo and was designed as a cultural icon that you can visit with your New York rental car. Today, the Wildlife Conservation Society works in 53 countries across the world to protect all species from insects to the king of the jungle.
See a map of New York unlike any other
One thing that you can learn about when you visit with your New York rental car is the Mannahatta Project, which is a project by the WCS to map exactly how Manhattan looked when Henry Hudson discovered it in 1609. Elements on the map include where the streams flowed, and where species of trees grew. The project was designed to see how we have altered the natural ecosystem.
Go back to the beginning
The Bronx Zoo was the original project for the Bronx Conservation Society. Some of the exhibits in the Bronx Zoo that you can visit with your New York rental car include seeing Western lowland gorillas in the Congo Gorilla Forest, visiting the Himalayan Highlands, or sweating it out in the Asian rain forest.
Welcome to the jungle
You can also transport yourself to the Asian rainforest without even leaving New York. This is a 37,000 square-foot Asian rainforest that is a permanent 75 degrees inside. There are four types of rainforest habitats marked by signs inside. From floor to ceiling you will find a wealth of animals in here. The stag beetles, walkingsticks, and fired-bellied toads creep along the forest floor. At the top of the trees the Bali mynah and Indian roller fly around, while the white-cheeked gibbons swing from tree-to-tree.
Stay central to Manhattan
The Central Park Zoo is another part of the Bronx Conservation Society. There are three major exhibit areas here - tropic, temperate, and arctic - that are housed in discreet buildings. One of the favorite attractions to check out here with your New York rental car is the Polar Bear Pool.
The Bronx Conservation Society is committed to protecting all species by education efforts.
