The area of Bellerose was first developed in 1910 when the Bellerose Long Island Railroad Station was established for the Hempstead Branch. The Queens County Farm Museum is located on 47 acres in Bellerose. This is the city's largest undisturbed tract of farmland left, and it has been operating since 1697. Under the last private owner in 1900, it was the second largest farm in Queens County and the highest in dollar value, assessed at 32 grand. Eventually, the farm came under control of the New York City Department of Parks, and today it is a museum. There are guided tours all year long, but if you visit between April and October, you can also go on a hay ride.
